Injuries suck because they prevent you from making progress.

I don’t think I take recovery seriously enough because I seem to be slightly injury prone (okay more than slightly). I think this is a result of increasing my training intensity too quickly and assuming my body can handle infinite load. This needs to change if I want to perform at a high level for a long time.

Injuries I am prone to

  • I have a weird thing with my right ankle
    • I hurt it as a kid during track and it’s been a recurring injury where I have significantly less range of motion in my right ankle. Sports aggravate this.
  • IT band tendonitis
    • I think I originally got this due to a running asymmetry during the SF half but it was pretty mild, then I did a no warmup sprinters workout In early August which fucked my knee and now when I run distances over 10km I can really feel the affect)
  • Peroneal tendonitis
    • You can straight up see the tendon on my foot that is swollen lol. This is Inflammation or irritation of the peroneal tendons, which run along the outer side of your ankle and connect the lower leg muscles to the foot. This just happened from ramping up my milage too fast? Basically just rest and ice to fix this.

How do I recover?

Fucking stretch and ice your shit when you get hurt. Consistently stretch your muscles and stop neglecting calf strength training even if they look amazing ;)
